It's the most...wonderful tiiiiime...of the year....
I'm not sure what it is about the Home and Garden Show that makes me love it so much. But I do. Every year I look forward to the annual gathering of sellers of miracle mops, miracle cheese graters, miracle gutter guards, and miracle hammocks.
Might be because the show always signals the upcoming arrival of spring, or it might be because of the sheer cheesiness of it all, but it's an event that I never miss.
This year, as we wandered around the first floor -- where the "garden" side of the show seems to congregate -- we slowly became aware that yes, it WOULD be great to have a pool in our backyard. And it'd be even better if that pool were surrounded by a fabulous unilock patio, complete with a built-in grill capable of handling a dozen or so brontosaurus burgers at once.
Yes. A pool and deck and grill would be outstanding. On this point we agreed.
And then we agreed on this even BETTER point -- that it would be significantly more enjoyable for us if one or more of our FRIENDS put a pool and deck and humungo-grill in THEIR backyards.
So get with it, you lazy bastards. Nice weather will be here before you know it.
In conclusion, I'd like to leave you all with the lyrics to a tune that has been running through my head for about four days now:
This is it. This is it.
This is life, the one you get
So go and have a ball.
This is it. This is it
Straight ahead and rest assured
You can’t be sure at all.
So while you’re here enjoy the view
Keep on doing what you do
So hold on tight we'll muddle through
One day at a time, One day at a time.
So up on your feet. Up on your feet
Somewhere there’s music playing.
Don’t you worry none
We’ll just take it like it comes.
One day at a time, one day at a time.
One day at a time, one day at a time.
One day at a time, one day at a time.
One day at a time, one day at a time.
I assume you watched the "One Day at a Time" reunion special. Mackenzie Phillips was sober and everything, so you knew it was a special occasion. The big revelation was that the cast had no idea what the lyrics to the theme song were, which tells you either something about the cast, or the song.
I would have changed the channel but I was washing dishes and my hands were soapy, and besides, I always had a thing for Valerie Bertinelli.
